What is Catalyst?
The Catalyst Cohort is a 16-week program that teaches theatre writers a process for completing the strongest draft of their show. Book writers, composer, lyricists, and playwrights each work in their own discipline.

Who Can Join?
Writers can join individually or as a team, at any stage: a new idea, a project in progress, or a finished draft ready for revision. It offers graduate-level instruction without the commitment of a major degree program.

What does the process look like?
Writers work through project selection, structure, and drafting, with multiple group feedback calls each week. The goal of the 16 weeks is a finished draft. The final phase prepares the work for submission, and provides the writer with a clear roadmap forward for their show's development.

Who Leads It?
The Catalyst Cohort is led by Jesse Hampsch (MFA Musical Theatre Collaboration; M.Mus. Conducting; BMI Lehman Engel Workshop Lyricist). The curriculum draws on his MFA training and 15+ years as an educator, six of which were at the college level.
